Maths:

• We are continuing to count in fractions today and fully understanding what fractions make a whole. E.g. 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 = 4/4 which is equal to one whole.

English:

• Yesterday, you planned your change story and wrote the opening and build-up. Have a go at writing the dilemma, resolution and ending of your change story. Make sure to edit as you go and keep checking for punctuation, capital letters and spellings.

History:

• Today we are writing our answer to the question 'How has coal mining changed Selby as a settlement?'
• Think about when you wrote your discussion text and try and use sentence signposts like on the other hand, furthermore, in addition etc. Think about the different facts we have discussed too. For example, one reason why coal mining changed Selby as a settlement was that is was one of the leading coal mines in the UK so brought in money and attention for Selby's economy. It also brought many jobs to the people living in Selby.

• Today you will need to plan your own change story. Think about what could change your character's life and how this will happen. Think about Archie's Dream story map and how his life was changed. Here is the planning document.

• Then write the opening and build-up to your change story. Do not try and finish your story today as we want to make sure we are taking our time. Make sure you focus carefully on hooking the reader with your opening, the 4 W's, character descriptions focusing on descriptive features like show not tell, expanded noun phrases and then finally choosing the appropriate nouns and pronouns.

Computing:

• We have been looking at algorithms and programming in our computing lessons. Have a go at this online algorithm game to practice your skills.

Reading:

• Grab your favourite teddy, favourite book and find a comfy spot to read.

• We have been looking at editing our work to further improve it. Now that you have finished your resolution and ending paragraph, can you edit it to improve it with a different colour pen. Think about our levelling up pencil in the classroom.

Remember we have discussed that an opening paragraph should hook the reader immediately. Therefore, use descriptive features like expanded noun phrases, show not tell and other features like fronted adverbials.
