Have a look at Sam's PowerPoint about the Platypus
It's very interesting, I didn't know that they could hold their breath for 2 minutes.

🎨Creative challenge 🎨

John Lewis are launching a competition to find a superhero teddy bear, and we need your help designing it. The winning teddy will be sold in John Lewis and Waitrose shops later this year, with 100% of the profits going to the NHS

DESIGN YOUR TEDDY BEAR
In honour of our incredible carers at the NHS, we need designs for superhero-themed bears – don’t feel like you have to stick to the traditional brown bear – we want to see all kinds of super teddies.
Try and incorporate unique elements through colours, patterns, capes, masks – whatever feels exciting for you, but please avoid using any recognisable icons in your designs, such as the ‘NHS’ lettering or Superman logos.
If you need a bit of help getting started, then please download our teddy bear drawing template below.

HOW TO ENTER
Send your superhero teddy bear design straight to John Lewis by 5pm on
on 8 May 2020 (not to me) although I would love to see some of them too.
An adult over the age of 18 should submit a photo of your design in one of the following two ways:
Share your designs by email to
designyoursuperbear@johnlewis.co.uk
or posted through a public Instagram or Twitter account with the hashtag
#DesignYourSuperBear

You can use this template for your design:

Mental Maths

7 reasons why doing Mental Maths is important:

• It enhances children’s ability to concentrate.
• It stimulates children’s interest in maths.
• It improves the self-confidence of the child.
• It helps with the application skills in maths.
• It helps to reduce mistakes in problem-solving.
• It is strongly associated with better memory skills.
• It stimulates both sides of the brain.

How about a Hit the Button Challenge?

Choose an area to focus on:
Number Bonds to 100
Mixed times tables

Play a game now and record your score then play the same game every day for a week.

What's the best score you get?

How much have you improved from your first score?

Grown ups can take part in this challenge too.

We'd love to hear how you get on.

Perhaps, once you are an expert you can move on to other number bonds or other important mental calculations which are helpful to know by heart

TTRS

Wow Humber! I've just had another look at TTRS and am extremely impressed to see so many of you using it!

👏Well done to Layla, Amy, Anna, Bethan, Charlotte, Jack, Sam, Kaitlyn, Lucas, Finlay & Neive👏

🏆keep your eyes open for the next battle! 🏆

This is me!

Nieve took part in a 'This is me' challenge this week.
She was asked to find 10-12 items that represent her.
Some fantastic item choices Neive!

Anna had a go too! I think I would have a few the same as Anna, definitely Angel cake, my dog and a book.
Well done Anna!

This is Bethan's 'This is me' with her items that represent her.
It's lovely to see some photographs on there Bethan, family and friends are very important! Along with another David Walliams book, definitely a popular author in Humber class.
 Well done Bethan!

Could you find 10-12 items that represent you?
Think about why they represent you.
Estelle has worked really hard to create a poem all about isolation, it made me smile! 😃
Well done Estelle! 😊

Could you have a go at creating a poem like Estelle's?

🌟 Humber Class Ongoing Task - Who is your hero?🌟

I’ve been hearing lots of people talking about their heroes recently, especially the NHS heroes on the news.

A hero is a person who is admired for their courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. Heroes come in all shapes and sizes and each of you will no doubt have a different hero for very different reasons but I would like to hear all about them.

I would like you to choose your hero and learn all about them, then show what you know in whatever way you choose, you might choose to use the computer and create a PowerPoint, Poster or piece of writing or you could create a scrapbook instead.

Be creative and take your time, this is a project for you to work on over the next few weeks rather than completed in one session.

If you complete all of this week’s learning have a look on the BBC Bitesize website there’s lots to learn on there 😊

Bethan has been very busy recently, very creative!
 How have you been creative?
I like this one!  The rooster don’t normally look like this but you can tell it is a rooster just has different colours. I chose this because I like Picasso the best. My mum likes Monet paintings
Well done Amy for completing this week's art learning, this is a very interesting piece of work!

These are Amy's chickens, she is helping to look after them whilst we are not in school.
She really likes collecting the eggs!
Neive has been working so hard with her History, Maths and creative learning that she needed some precious relaxing time!

Sam, big sister Beth and Mum decided to do some hill walking at home, and took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge up and down our stairs! It took 617 flights of stairs to equal the ascents of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. They did it over 3 days and even built a trig point for the top (pic attached!).
They also had a family camping night in the living room, nobody got much sleep!

Layla sketched a beautiful observational drawing with Mrs Chiverton earlier this week.
Well done Layla, you paid close attention to detail 😊
Eden's been taking care of her guinea pig

I love your poster Eden! :)
Has anybody else made one?

Very creative Eden! :)

Eden's pizza looks delicious! It's lovely to see that you're helping out as well as being super creative! :)

Has anybody else been helping around the house and taking care of pets?

Easter busy-ness

Hi Humber 😀
I hope that you have all had a rest over the Easter break. It seems that we have all been keeping busy over the Easter holidays

Lucas has been very busy, thinking about different countries and planning where he would like to go when we can travel again (sounds like a great idea to me). He has been enjoying some exercise in the fresh air and creating his own X for Britain's got talent.

Jake has been creating his own den, learning lots of woodwork skills with his grown ups and watching the meteor shower!

Neive has been creating some fruity  eggs and even growing her own cucumbers!

Me and Biscuit have had lots of exercise over the Easter break we've been making our daily exercise count, she really likes looking for the sheep and cows on the riverbank!
I decided to spend some time learning how to knit and made a little Easter chick.

What have you been up to?
Have you learnt any new skills?
How have you been enjoying the fresh air?

Easter holiday learning

We suggest that over this 2 week period each child does the following :

  • Daily physical activity (keeping safe and follow social distancing guidelines)
  • Keeping  a journal (A good sized paragraph). Taking photos of any games, tasks they do, writing a  paragraphs about their day etc.
  • Daily reading – solo reading,  being read to, reading to someone, audiobook,
  • Practising timetables (e.g. TT rockstars)
  • Visits to the class and school blogs – adding comments to existing posts and accessing links to other recommended websites from the links on these pages.
  • Household chores and jobs
  • Enjoy some downtime and free play
  • Writes letter, make calls, zoom/skpye/facetime  etc. to friends and family members – virtual social contact is important for us all!

We will not be setting any further work over the 2 week ‘Easter Holiday’, but of course you can continue to exhaust the home learning packs and previous homework menu if you wish.

After Easter/ from Monday 20th April  we will be then sending some further tasks out for children to complete at home.

Please note that during the Easter period I am advising staff to also have some quiet time with their families and loved ones (other than on duty in school, when we are opening for children of key /frontline workers). Therefore email correspondence  and blog posts may well not be responded to until 20th April.
